FIRST LEGO League Explore is a non-competitive robotics program for students in 2nd–4th grade. The Philadelphia Robotics Coalition supports teams of Philadelphia public school students to participate in the program. Teams use LEGO Spike Essentials kits to design a model related to the FIRST LEGO League season theme. At an Expo event, teams explain their work to reviewers. A unique award is given to each participating team.
FIRST® LEGO® League Explore inspires youth in grades 2-4 to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding, and design skills through fun hands-on STEM learning and robotics. The 2024-2025 FIRST LEGO League Explore challenge is called SUBMERGED. In the SUBMERGED℠ challenge, FIRST® LEGO® League teams will use creative thinking and LEGO® technology to explore the layers of the ocean and bring their learnings and ideas to the surface as they “sea” into the future. Teams will need to come up with creative ideas for ways to share ideas with audiences and communicate with audiences of any size.
PROGRAM GRANTS – PRC partners with the Department of Defense STEM to ensure FIRST LEGO® League Explore teams receive program grants in the 2024–2025 school year to register their teams with FIRST.
The FIRST LEGO League Explore season ends with Festivals, where students showcase their team models and posters and share what they’ve learned with volunteers, friends, and family.
