FIRST LEGO League Explore is a non-competitive robotics program for students in 2nd–4th grade. The Philadelphia Robotics Coalition supports teams of Philadelphia public school students to participate in the program. Teams use LEGO Spike Essentials kits to design a model related to the FIRST LEGO League season theme. At an Expo event, teams explain their work to reviewers. A unique award is given to each participating team.
FIRST® LEGO® League Explore inspires youth in grades 2-4 to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding, and design skills through fun hands-on STEM learning and robotics. The 2022-2023 FIRST LEGO League Explore challenge is called SUPERPOWERED. Children will learn about how energy is generated, stored, transported, and consumed.
PROGRAM GRANTS – The Coalition awards grants of up to $100 for teams to register for competition, purchase parts and tools, and travel to events. 6 FIRST LEGO® League Explore teams received Coalition program grants in the 2021–2022 school year.
The FIRST LEGO League Explore season ends with Festivals, where students showcase their team models and posters and share what they’ve learned with volunteers, friends, and family.
